How we work with Asian letters and characters

Here is a glimpse of some of the work done for the translations of our wargames.

The process consists in taking the localization files (usually big csv text files) containing the various Asian characters and symbols used in the game (now mostly simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean) and process them in a tool that “maps’ them into a big image, such as the one shown here. Then the game engine will display them as images, which helps us avoiding various O/S issues where, depending on the fonts in use, some characters would not show and be replaced by blanks or squares.

The process has to be repeated for each new game and, basically, each time that we add text in one (or more) of those languages”.
