Here is a list of the games that will come in the SGS Battle series collection. Some are published, others in beta testing and have a rather advanced status; others are still on their way (see Next games).
SGS Battle for Stalingrad
The terrible “rat fights” (Ratenkrieg) fought out in the urban area of Stalingrad end of 1942, on a battalion scale and two days per turn scales. Relive one of the fiercest and deadliest battles in history, a ‘Hell in a Small Place’.
SGS Battle for Madrid
The game takes place from November 1936 to February 1937, and saw the most intense fighting in and around the city when the Nationalists made their most determined attempt to take the Republican capital. The latter held the city which did not fall till 1939, when the war was decided on other fronts. But it could have been different if the capital had fallen earlier…
SGS Battle for Hue
The third game of the SGS Battle Series, covering the intense fighting inside the Vietnamese city of Huế in 1968, a bloody episode of the infamous ‘Têt Offensive’ during the Vietnam War.
The Battle of Huế (31 January 1968 – 2 March 1968), also called the siege of Huế, was a major military engagement in the Tết Offensive launched by North Vietnam and the Việt Cộng during the Vietnam War. After initially losing control of most of Huế and its surroundings, the combined South Vietnamese and American forces gradually recaptured the city over one month of intense fighting. The battle was one of the longest and bloodiest of the war, and the battle negatively affected American public perception of the war. Can you decide victory (for one side or the other) in a speedier way?
SGS Battle for Dien Bien Phu
The fifth game of the SGS Battle Series, also set in Vietnam, at the end of what is known as the War of Indochina (1946-1954). The battle was a decisive defeat for the French and decided of the end of the conflict.
This battle was a climactic confrontation that took place between 13 March and 7 May 1954. The troops of the CEFEO (French Far East Expeditionary Corps) and Viet Minh communist revolutionaries, each supported (more or less covertly) by powerful allies fought for almost two months in that remote place of northwest Tonkin. The French expected to renew with their previous victory at Na-San in a similar concept (entrenched base in the middle of enemy lines, supported by paras, air force and artillery), but they were caught to their own game by a better preparation of their foe, who played his own assets (numbers, artillery support, anti-aircraft guns and supplies) with a better efficiency. The peace negotiations at Geneva were adversely affected, for the French, by their defeat. Could a victory, or at least a stalemate, lead to a different outcome and peace?
SGS Battle for Fort Donelson
Another new game of the SGS Battle Series, this time taking place during the American Civil War (1861-1865) era.
The Battle of Fort Donelson was fought from February 11–16, 1862, in the Western Theater of the American Civil War. The Union capture of the Confederate fort near the Tennessee–Kentucky border opened the Cumberland River, an important avenue for the invasion of the South. The Union’s success also elevated Brig. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant from an obscure and largely unproven leader to the rank of major general, and earned him the nickname of “Unconditional Surrender” Grant. You can play both side and decide if the victory can be different.
SGS Battle for Shanghai
The Battle of Shanghai, sometimes referred to as the Stalingrad of the Pacific, is a major urban battle fought between the Empire of Japan and the Republic of China in the Chinese city of Shanghai during the Second Sino-Japanese War. It lasted from August 13, 1937, to November 26, 1937, and was arguably the single largest and longest battle of the entire war, with it even regarded by some historians as the first battle of World War II. It resulted in the Japanese capturing the city and heavy destruction to the city. Fight it again, as China to reclaim the city in full, or as Japan to seize it earlier than historically and pursue your offensive towards Nanking.
SGS Samourai Battles
The first game of the SGS Battle Series in the modern era. Three key battles that took place in 16th century Japan are represented, during one of the most unsettled periods in its history, the Sengoku Jidai, the age of the “warring provinces”, or rather of the “Warrior states”. Nagashino, June 28, 1575 ; Shizugatake, June 11, 1583 ; Sekigahara, October 21, 1600.
SGS Battle for Verdun
In February 1916, the Germans launched a surprise attack against a weak sector of the French front, at the city of Verdun. The French managed however to resist the initial onslaught and gradually fought back over the whole year, finally returning to the original frontlines after months of slaughter and almost a million casualties on both sides. Relive the titanic battle for Verdun and the horrors of WW1 warfare, with heavy bombardment, gas, air combat and close-combat for the key trenches, hills, woods and forts.
SGS Battle for Warsaw
The Warsaw Uprising was the major operation of the Polish underground resistance to liberate Warsaw from German occupation. In the summer of 1944, the Armia Krajowa (Polish home army) attacked the Germans in the city, taking advantage of the formers’ retreat from Poland ahead of the Soviet advance. But the Red Army halted combat operations, enabling the Germans to regroup and defeat the Polish resistance and to destroy the city in retaliation.
The Uprising was fought for 63 days with little outside support. It was the single largest military effort taken by any European resistance movement during World War II.
